Max Brosi is an innovative Irish sculptural woodturner, his background is in Furniture Design and Making, which he studied at The Furniture College in Letterfrack, Connemara, Ireland.

He first gained recognition for his abstract and narrative multi axis tube compositions, turned from wet wood that distorted as they seasoned. Since taking part in the Windgate ITE (International Turning Exchange) several years ago Max has turned his attention to the vessel form, the blank canvas of woodturning. His focus is on harmony in the vessel, exploring materiality, form, Line, texture, and proportion in his compositions, with inspiration coming from far eastern mark making and the forms and textures found along the coast near his home and studio in NW Ireland.

Max’s work has been exhibited in the USA, UK, Germany, Italy, Dubai, and of course Ireland, with work in public and private collections.

Demonstrations

Whalebone Form

Max Brosi

An abstract multi axis sculptural piece loosely based on a stylised whale vertebrae. Turned by remounting the workpiece on several axes, before blending elements with carving.

Space Invader

Max Brosi

A simple multi axis sculptural form derived from a sphere. This is a great straightforward first piece to attempt in this type of work. In this demo I also explore texture and surface treatment.

Not from this World

Max Brosi

A slightly more complicated hollow multi axis sculptural form. This piece is entirely turned on the lathe with no additional carving.
